Penicillins are a class of antibiotics that include natural penicillins, enzyme-resistant penicillins, and broad-spectrum penicillins. Penicillin antibiotics include natural penicillin, such as Penicillin G, etc.; enzyme-resistant penicillins, such as benzathine penicillin; broad-spectrum penicillins, such as ampicillin and benzylpenicillin hydroxybenzyl penicillin (Amoxicillin), etc. It is also known as a β-lactam antibiotic because of the β-lactam ring in its structure. Penicillins act by interfering with the bacterial cell wall, while the synthesis of mammalian cells does not have a cell wall. Therefore, penicillin has very low toxicity to the human body, and the effectively bactericidal concentration of penicillin has little effect on human cells.
